How can you get the attention of people online or earn their trust to make purchases from your marketplace? If you are just getting your feet wet in your market, it will take some time to get going. There is a ton of noise on the internet and filtering out the information you find trustworthy can be very difficult. While being on the first page of Google search results can help, that takes a lot of time and frankly is not very easy to do. In order to establish credibility in your marketplace, you must show you are very knowledgeable within your space. Generate blog posts, article updates, podcast series, webinars, and if big enough even hosting conferences. This type of work can help you grow your connection base and let others know you are here to make some noise in your industry. Connect with other thought leaders and work to build your marketplace name.

Does your marketplace have a content marketing strategy in place? Don’t just keep pushing your product or service in the face of your audience, but rather take a more educational approach. Share relevant articles and resources to help them make their decisions. In marketing, it is not about creating the best ad but more so about being at the right place at the right time. That may come in your emails, newsletters, or whatever it may be. Education is a very powerful thing and many are listening.  

Be Responsive

One of the biggest failures of companies is not listening to what their audience is saying about their marketplace. Are you tracking and optimizing your team to perform “active listening” tactics? Avoiding a negative review can cause more drama and a huge headache. With social media and the internet being so accessible, it can spread quickly. It’s important to respond and react to those to show your marketplace truly cares about their users and customers.

Showcase Reliability

Now that you have learned the importance of establishing credibility and being responsive, putting those two together will tie perfectly into the next one: reliability. What does that exactly mean when it comes to your marketplace? Being there for your audience and showing you are a marketplace that is here to stay is a great place to start.

Is your presence strong on social media? This can help take your trust in your audience to the next level. Do you post and interact with your audience on a regular basis? Don’t think it’s a waste of time to spend sharing, liking, and chatting with your followers. Run live Q&A sessions to show you are an expert in the field or a morning podcast to update your viewers on what is going on. The important part is that you are doing it on a daily basis and being consistent. It’s like showing up for a new job for a full week then coming in only twice the following week. It looks bad and no one will be able to count on you when it comes to getting projects done.

As you look for other ways to gain trust, remember it all start by looking in the mirror. Are you holding yourself accountable along with the rest of your team members? Establish relationships with those you connect with and show you are genuinely there for them and not just looking to sell them on your marketplace. Share resources, tools, and whatever else can help them with what they are looking for. Don’t be so self-absorbed into making a short sale and worry more so about gaining lifetime customers.
